All good things must come to an end

Okay its my final post so I thought I'd have it in italics.... preeeeetttttttyyyyy!!!

Woh.... I've actually finished it.... the last one was a mission to finish SO I'm quite happy that I've done it. I thought the activities were relevant to our work place, but just like everything in life that you try you won't always like EVERYTHING and thats just my thought on my experience with Web 2.0. I enjoyed it but I didn't like all the activities. It was a little difficult at times to find time to do the activities but when I got the time, it was fun!!! Overall Web 2.0, the second time round, was O for awesome!!! I enjoyed the fact that most sites, except facebook, could be accessed from our log ins so I didn't have to keep going on to the learn net computers.

It was fun while it lasted and I got to visit some cool, and some not so cool, websites that I would not have otherwise. There were also websites that I did know about, they were awesome because even though I've been using zamzar and facebook for ages I still learned something NEW from the activity!

*Two thumbs up* for web 2.0

I ♥ FACEBOOK!!!

Okay, so it's obvious I love Facebook, so this week's activity was a sinch for me... I was like totally excited about being able to go onto facebook and not look over my shoulder for Jody... lol... okay, although i love Facebook it wasn't as easy as I thought...the one thing I found hard was becoming a fan on the Manukau Libraries fb page.... ummm and I still dont know how to... lol Rich tried helping but he added to my confusion... (trust boys to confuse you more, should've asked a girl... lol) but I left a message on the page to show I was in there... the next activities were cool, commenting on the discussion boards.. I especially liked the one about the best book I've read (I'll let you read that one when you visit the manukau libraries fb page) Ummmm, what else???? I went into the Wellington Libraries fb page and found that they post stuff like winners of competitions, vacancies and they also let people know about new stock which is cool.... very similar to our page... i kind of find the business pages a bit "ugly" mainly coz of how many applications show up???? but yeh other than that, it was cool to see, I don't think I'll be following them tho.. hehehehe... (just being honest, not trying to be hurtful... lol)

On a personal note.... like I said in the title I absolutely ♥ Facebook, mainly coz I get to catch with "back in the day" friends... and also the "new" friends I meet when Im out and about... hehehehe.... and heaps of patrons use facebook here at our library, I think thats where we get most of our cash in take at the end of the day... lol... thats how popular it is. I will definately keep using facebook after this and yes... I would totally let patrons know about FB..... One of the best networking services that we have for our generation.... love it! love it! love it!

AmieSt.com - Music Files and Mp3s

Hhhhhmmmm? where to start? Okay how about I spent almost the whole day on this site and really got nothing out of it. Im not saying that it aint useful, it could be and maybe even would be... IF it was the kind of music that I wanted to listen to. To be totally honest I looked at all the website available (when I had free time at work... lol) and found that none of these websites were really useful for the patrons that we have at our library. The age group that we have are more into the mainstream, recent beats. What's offered in these sites and especially AmieSt.com are more old school/classic hits or alternative stuff. So? just speaking for my library.... I don't think that it is a site that would be used frequently by our customers mainly because they use jamglue (fyi, I'm not sure if its a legal site... but they do use it... hehehe). Another thing was actually downloading the music. I found it quite difficult mainly because I had to download the downloading programme, and that right there is a NO THANK YOU and a massive az FAIL for our computers and patrons. So to answer the question whether it would be an easy site for customers and whether they could use it unsupervised??? .... my answer would be a big fat NO. Hmmmmmmm other sites???? I cant really think of any, I know that there are alot out there, however the legality of these sites are questionable???

Okay, thats me. Didn't exactly like this AmieSt.com but happy to know about these websites... there could be an odd ball out there that will come in one day and ask for something like this, at least I can say that I know where to go.

GoodReads: Books and Social Networking

Okay, so this week the task felt like a chore I had to do. You know like how you have to eat all the yucky vege's on your plate to get to the desert??? Well thats kind of what it was like with Good Reads. Mainly because the website itself is blah! as in it's really quite boring with its colour scheme and effects (or lack of). However, this is a good website for all the book freaks out there. If you're nothing like me, and love to read anything given to you or suggested to you, then I guess having a Good Reads account and following others is the thing for you!

I was able to put in my 5cents with reviews on books that I've read and liked..... there was also the option of putting in books you would like to read and books which you are reading at this very moment. These are all good ideas if you have friends following you, but this is where I found this website a chore, I had to add peoples email addresses to get others to follow what Im doing and for me to follow them. Its hard enough for me to remember all my 2 email addresses, let alone remember 5 friends.

BUT, this website is quite a good one for those customers that are filling up our request shelves with romance books and also always asking "what other books would you recommend." The site could be a lil bit more user friendly OR elderly friendly??? Will def pass this website on to customers.... although... I can totally see myself spending another hour with them setting things up and familiarising them to the website.... is it really all worth it??? Only for some!

Twitter - Micro-blogging @ a glance

WOAH.... where to start??? That was pretty cool. I had alot of help from a friend who's a twitter FREAK! (No names Liz hehehe) But having her there made the event alot easier and way more FUN ... lol. At first I thought how the heck can Twitter bring the world to my footstep??? And the answer is, coz people are nosey and they'll follow what I do (well thats if people think i'm remotely interesting, which I am... LOL) Okay so 2 thumbs up for Twitter, so far. Im currently following Justin Bieber, the Glee Cast, Manukau Libraries and of course Liz Muliaga. I have also linked twitter to my mobile phone and also facebook.... thats hardout NO PRIVACY...But I must say that this social networking is great, but it does have its down fall... eg.... the group of teens that went around robbing celebs?? Hhhhhmmmmm .... so the lesson learned is, don't tell everyone EVERYTHING... duh! :)

Blogger - Set up your own blog

Rewind...... I was so excited about Zamzar I forgot to blog about setting up my new Blog hehehe, maybe coz its Monday and I have monday-i-tis :) Okay I think blogging is cool. If you're one of those people that just loves to write about a certain subject or if you have an opinion that you would like to show, well I would suggest blogging. Just as long as you're prepared to be criticised by people that you dont know and who dont know you....
Blogging within libraries??? I personally think that blogging isn't for everyone and it shouldn't be coz, to be honest, some people just dont have anything to write thats worth reading (harsh but true!). I guess its too early to say how blogging could be used in libraries, but I know that there are other places blogs are used, for instance, people who go away on their O.E's have blogs, but those blogs are exciting to read because you're reading about those people's adventures away from home.... what sort of adventures can librarians talk about??? Imaginary ones? thats why we have books and movies right?? hhhhhmmm something to think about I guess. On the other hand, maybe each library could have their own blog and each week someone different could get on and blog about whats been happening and whats gonna happen.... almost like having our own lil e-community of librarians and a select-few from outside of libraries....??? hehehe. Just some thought provoking ideas for those who are ACTUALLY reading this and have gotten this far.. hehehehe

Zamzar - Converting file formats

Love love looooooovvvveeeee Zamzar. I think its ozim that we can convert word documents to pdf files.... BUT that stuff is boring (but useful for customers... :) hehehe) A better use for it, for all the music lovers out there, that dont have the money to burn to buy an entire album or you're just looking to get one or two songs from a certain CD??? Zamzar is the place to go. Real easy to convert youtube clips to mp3s.... yippee....and its allllll FREE. 1 thing thats kind of annoying is how many windows pop up when you go to retrieve it from your email. If you're doing more than one at a time, you cant really close all the windows until its done downloading.
But, definately a website I will be sharing with others.
